Lots of information in here not just about Dylan s death, but his life as well The writer is wholly biased toward Dylan and against those around him at the time of his death, without even considering that they might have been honestly mistaken not knowing anything about them, I can t say whether that s accurate, but he certainly condemns them roundly The book isn t quite as sensational as the title makes it sound neglect and medical mess ups, along with alcohol, poor diet and poor lifestyle, killed Dylan Thomas, not any direct decision to kill him Still, it does sound as if he could have lived longer, if people had helped him.Wonder if he d be as famous if he had lived.

Dylan Thomas died of pneumonia, broke, at the age of 39 in municipal hospital in New York Great career move as it turned out with Under Milk Wood becoming an instant classic that would have solved his financial woes had he lived and a legend was born.No one involved in his slow demise, including the late Mr T, emerges from this with their reputation enhanced His agent was only interested in milking the physically unhealthy goose that laid the golden eggs to help finance his ridiculously louche lifestyle The society doctor kept giving injections of morphine to a man with a life threatening chest infection shades of the care Michael Jackson would later receive His new squeeze inexplicably delayed calling for an ambulance Caitlin arrived and, hysterical, was put in a strait jacket and carted off to the local bin The title is apt.The 18 straight whiskies myth is debunked it helped the cover story and enhanced the legend Detailed hospital records from London and New York are found and published verbatim as is the fascinating post mortem report which revealed the cause of death was not alcohol related and, apart from the inevitable fatty liver and oesophageal varices, DT initial determinism may well have survived with the correct treatment well into his early forties But then no one would have heard the name Bob Dylan. Also I d like to request just in case the author is considering a follow up medical bombshell, Aberaeron general practitioners are all round good chaps and I love his books.
